Ferrari GTC4 Lusso
Ferrari’s Updated FF
It was at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show that Ferrari [NYSE:RACE] surprised the world with the FF, a shooting brake with V-12 performance and all-wheel drive.
At this year’s show, Ferrari have introduced an updated version of the car that receives some subtle styling tweaks, a four-wheel-steering system and a new name: GTC4 Lusso.

The name will be familiar to Ferrari fans. It references some classics such as the 330 GTC or its 2+2 sister model, the 330 GT—one of Enzo Ferrari’s favourites—and the 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso. The number 4 alludes to the car’s four seats in the cabin. Also in the cabin, you’ll find a revamped dash complete with a 10.25-inch touchscreen display for the infotainment system. The steering wheel is more compact thanks to a smaller air bag and the integrated controls are said to be more ergonomic.
Under the hood is Ferrari’s familiar 6.3-liter V-12, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In this latest application, the engine delivers 680 horsepower and 514 pound-feet of torque. By comparison, the outgoing FF delivers 651 hp and 504 lb-ft. The engine is said to be much more tractable, with Ferrari claiming as much as 80 percent of the torque is produced from as low as 1,750 rpm.

Other claims made by Ferrari include a 0-62 mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 208 mph. That’s not bad considering the car with all fluids and a driver will weigh almost 4,400 lb—and that’s with optional lightweight features. The weight distribution, meanwhile, is 47-53 front-rear.
To aid the handling, there is the four-wheel-steering system. This made its debut in the F12 tdf and here it is teamed with the 4RM all-wheel-drive system that debuted in the FF. The system also integrates a brake-based differential, adjustable dampers and Ferrari’s Slip Side Control feature to optimize handling, especially in poor conditions such as on snow-covered roads.
